I am a second generation DC. I watched my father practice for almost forty years. He never had an Associate (he did for about six months but "it just wasn't right for him").
My father seldom missed a day from his practice. I can only remember him being sick three times in my life. Additionally, we would eat dinner at 5:00 p.m. so he could go back to the office and see patients from 6:00 - 8:00 each evening. At the time, I couldn't understand why he would be tired and not want to play catch or come to a little league game.
We took only one seven-day vacation a year. During that time my father just closed his practice. He not only had the cost of the vacation, he lost a full week of production and had any practice momentum reversed.
So, I understand, and I have a solution!!
